The beginning of 2013 saw the release of 99%Media’s first major collective effort; a feature length documentary on the undemocratic and brutal crackdown of the forces of order against the Maple Spring protesters and the institutional legal intimidation by politicians and public officers and disinformation at the hands of corporate mainstream.

“DÉRIVES”, the title of the documentary, was created over the span of 4 month on a zero dollar budget and was released free to the public and was independently screened by citizen initiated public viewings at colleges, universities, pubs, clubs and documentary film festivals.

For an entire year between 2012 and 2013 99%Media followed a group of citizens in a town south of Montreal called St-Bruno-de-Montarville. Citizens of that town were fighting against an allegedly corrupt mayor who was allegedly colluding with a lobbying real estate developer who planned to tear down an endangered forest to build un-affordable housing for wealthy patrons. The mayor not only refused to listen to the citizens, but also allegedly abused his power and had citizens who confronted him forcibly removed from public council sessions by police officers.

99%Media caught such alleged abuses and produced a short documentary that sparked a viral media storm that even trickled up to the mainstream media networks on the day of it’s publication.

La Charte des distractions is a collaborative effort between three media groups: Les Alter Citoyens, G.A.P.P.A. and 99%Media. This documentary was a public outcry against a discriminatory bill dsguised as a “secual” charter of Quebec “Values” tabled by then PQ government of Pauline Marois.
